How we handle your information
Our privacy notice, under the Protection of Personal Information Act. Version 2026.1
The short version
I understand what Loan Ranger holds about me and why. They collect my identity details, what I earn, what I spend and the documents I send, in order to prepare and place an application. Nothing goes to any bank until I agree to that application being sent, and I am asked separately each time. They must keep a record of applications that went to a bank for five years after our dealings end, because the Financial Intelligence Centre Act requires it. I may ask at any time for everything they hold about me, ask them to correct it, ask them to delete what they are not required to keep, or complain to the Information Regulator.
That is the notice you agreed to when you opened your account, stored word for word against it. The rest of this page says the same things at more length.
What we collect, and why
- Who you are — name, identity number, contact details. Every bank must confirm this under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act.
- What you earn and what you spend — read from the payslips and bank statements you send, so you do not have to type them, and shown to you to check before anything is saved.
- Your credit record — only if you upload it, or separately agree that we may fetch it. That permission is its own tick and you can withdraw it.
- What you do here — the documents you send, the applications you make and the permissions you give, so there is a record of what happened and when.
Who sees it
The people working your application, and the banks you agree to send it to. Nothing goes to a bank until you say so, and you are asked separately each time. Once a bank has your information it is responsible for it under its own terms.
If we cannot reach the right banks for what you need, a brokerage on this platform may be asked whether it can. You are asked first and may say no. Until you say yes they see what kind of finance you want and roughly how much — not your name, not your identity number and not one of your documents.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising. Nothing you type on the affordability calculator is saved at all.
How long we keep it
| What | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Applications that went to a bank, and the documents sent with them | Five years after our dealings end | Section 23 of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act. Not something we or a brokerage can shorten. |
| Applications that never went anywhere | Deleted when the account is closed | Nothing requires them to be kept. |
| Documents in an applicant's own locker | Until they remove them, or the account is closed | They are the applicant's to keep or remove. |
| The record of who did what to an application | With the application | An audit trail that outlives the thing it describes is of no use, and one that dies before it is worse. |
What you can make us do
- Show you everything we hold. There is a button — Your information, then Download everything. It is built when you press it and kept nowhere afterwards.
- Correct anything wrong. In Your details, or tell us.
- Delete what we are not required to keep. Say so and we will, and we will tell you exactly which parts we must keep and why.
- Withdraw a permission. Any of the optional ones, at any time, from Your information.
- Complain to the Information Regulator if you think we have handled your information badly. You do not have to come to us first, though we would rather you did.
Keeping it safe
Your documents are never served openly. Every time one is opened, by anybody, the platform checks who is asking and whether they are allowed, and writes down that it happened. Connections are encrypted. Two-step sign in is available on your account and we would encourage it.
If something does go wrong with your information, we must tell you and the Information Regulator, and we will.
